OCTOBERS WINNING WINE ESK VALLEY ROSE
Esk Valley: Very versatile. Try with summer al fresco fare, smoked fish and meat, pork or white dishes. Great as an aperitif.
Michael Cooper: This has been clearly New Zealand’s best rosé in shows, with several trophies to prove it. The 2013 vintage (4.5*) has a bright, light red hue. Scented and full-bodied, it is fully dry, with fresh, ripe, generous berry, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent depth and vibrancy.
Bob Campbell: 2012 vintage is a rich, fleshy wine with moderately strong cherry, berry flavours. Initial sweetness is to some extent cancelled by fine, ripe and drying tannins. Attractive wine. 4 stars
Cuisine Magazine: Gordon Russell established himself early as a fine exponent of rosé. His latest effort, vintage 2013, is a vibrant, sturdy wine, alive with racy, fresh red and dark berryfruit flavours and braced with tannins.
